Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has opened the financial bids for contract package C5-ECV-03 for construction of 11.61 km section of Corridor 5 (Puzhuthivakkam – Sholinganallur) of Phase 2 Chennai Metro Rail Project on September 5, 2021 .
The consortium of Hindustan Construction Company and KEC International Limited (HCC-KEC JV) emerged as the lowest bidder among the other two civil contractors (bidders). The financial position of each bidder is as under:
- HCC-KEC JV: Rs 1,122.02 crore (L1)
- L&T Limited: Rs 1,149.39 crore (L2)
- NCC Limited: Rs 1,290.70 crore (L3)
The scope of work includes construction of 11 Nos. (Eleven Nos.) of elevated stations at Madipakkam, Kilkatalai, beyond Puzhuthivakkam Metro Station (Except) and Alcott Metro Station. Including the construction of the viaduct. , Ichangadu, Kovilambakkam, Vellakkal, Medavakkam Coot Road, Kamaraj Garden Street, Medavakkam Junction, Perumbakkam, Global Hospital and Elcott and all related works in Corridor-5 of Chennai Metro Rail Project- Phase-II.
The tender for the said work was started in November 2020 and the technical bid was opened in June 2021. Now the bids have been sent for evaluation by the Tender Committee. If everything is found as per the terms of the contract, the contract will be awarded to HCC-KEC JV to start the construction work. The contractor will have to complete the work in 3 years from the date of issue of Letter PF Sanction (LOA) by CMRL.
Earlier, HCC-KEC JV had Received a contract worth Rs 1,147 crore For construction of 8-km elevated viaducts and nine metro stations of Corridor 4 from Porur Junction to Poonamallee Bypass under Phase 2 of the Chennai Metro Rail Project.
The 47 km long corridor of Chennai Metro will connect 5 Madhavaram and Sholinganallur with 48 stations.
