Chennai Metro invites EOI for leasing 126 coaches in Phase II

Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) last week invited applications for expression of interest for leasing 126 coaches Chennai Metro Phase 2 Project.

These coaches in package ARE04 have higher upfront system purchase cost, and CMRL . being leased to reduce revealed his intentions To do so through a procurement launch document in June 2020.

CMRL has converted these coaches as 42 trains of 3 cars (DMC + TC + DMC) for a period of 39 years on the new 45.8 km Line-3 (Madhavaram – Sipkot 2) and 47 km Line-5 (Madhavaram – Sholinganallur). planned to operate. along with 70 other trains of PACKAGE ARE02 that he intends to obtain.

This EOI exercise is being done to assess the response from the rolling stock industry. After this round, interested firms will be invited to participate in the actual RFP tender process consisting of technical and financial bids.

Unlike Phase 1 where CMRL procured 4-Coach Alstom Metropolis TrainsIn Phase 2, CMRL will operate 3-coach trains in all lines, which may be increased to 6-coaches in future.

With this development, CMRL has accelerated the procurement process for all three Phase 2 Rolling Stock Packages:

Back in 2017, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) was looking for lease 150 coaches for its Green Line, but none of that turned out to be constructive, so it will be interesting to see how it plays out in Chennai, if at all.
