Chennai, India (Urban Transport News): Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) placed a contract order of Rs 187.48 crore to a consortium of Altis Holding Corporation (AHC) and Varinder Construction Limited (VCL) for the construction of Poonamallee Depot for Corridor 4 of the Chennai Metro Rail Project, Phase 2. ,
The scope of work includes construction of Metro Depot at Poonamallee including Structural Works, Architectural Finish, Plumbing Works, Signage, Utility Shifting and Boundary Wall and all allied works for Corridor 4 of Chennai Metro Rail Project.
Tender for contract package of DPT-01 was floated in January this year and technical bids were opened in July. The financial bids were opened in September and AHC-VCL JV was declared the lowest bidder (L1) for this contract package. A total of five bidders submitted their bids, whose financial position is as follows:
- AHC-VCL JV: Rs 187.48 crore (L1)
- HCC-KEC JV: Rs 195.79 crore (L2)
- Power Make Projects: Rs 197.10 (L3)
- URC Construction (URC): Rs 200.91 (L4)
- BGR Energy Systems: Rs 206.19 (L5)
Now AHC-VCL JV has to complete the construction of Poonamallee depot in three years from the date of issue of LOA. The depot will be built over an area of 17 hectares and will feature 24 tracks that can fit six-coach trains. Apart from this, the accommodation of the employees will also be constructed in this depot.
According to CMRL officials, the first section between Poonamallee and Power House is an elevated section and will be built within four years initially. There are only two depots, the largest being at Madhavaram and the other at Poonamallee.
