In addition to opening bids for GC Contract of Line-4Chennai Metro Rail Limited (CMRL) has today opened technical bids for packages UG-01 and UG-02 of its 10 km underground section, revealing that 6 bidders have submitted a total of 10 bids for its tunneling work.

This 5.15 km stretch connects Bharathidasan Road station to Lighthouse station through 5 stations with twin tunnels. The package includes construction of four of these at Bharathidasan Road, Alwarpet, Kutchi Road and Light House. Thirumalai station will be constructed (interchange of Line-3 and Line-4) via Line-3 Package UG-04. A planned station on Foreshore Road is no longer functioning.

short range: Construction of Underground Stations at Light House, Kachari Road, Alwarpet, Bharathidasan Road, Underground Stabilizing Yard at Light House Station and with Cross Over and Twin Tunnels attached to it, Project from Chainage 0+001m to End Chainage 5+150m (Down Line) begins.
This 4.877 km stretch of twin tunnels connects a ramp west of Kodambakkam flyover station to Boat Club station, which includes Kodambakkam Flyover (formerly Meenakshi College), Kodambakkam, Panagal Park (with a crossover), Nandanam and Boat Club (Adyar). Gate Jn) has 5 stations. . A planned station at Knutson Park is no longer operating.

All the 10 bids have now been sent for technical bid evaluation, which may take a few months to complete. When this is done, the financial bids of the technically qualified bidders will be opened to identify who is the lowest bidder and most likely contractor for the construction of each package.
The construction of the underground section (Light House-Power House Ramp) of Line-4 will be financed by the Asian Development Bank (ADB) through a . $780 million (approx. Rs. 5890 crore) loan.
